By accessing or using Expense Tracker ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Expense Tracker is a free, client-side web application that allows users to:

  • Track income and expenses
  • Organize transactions by categories
  • Set and monitor budgets
  • Create recurring transactions
  • Visualize financial data with charts
  • Export and import data via CSV
  • Optionally sync data across devices using Google Sign-In

3. User Responsibilities

3.1 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your Google account if you choose to sign in
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use

3.2 Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
  • Use automated scripts to access the Service (except for personal use)
  • Upload malicious code or viruses

3.3 Data Accuracy

You are responsible for the accuracy of the financial data you enter. We are not liable for any financial decisions made based on data entered into the Service.

4. Data and Privacy

4.1 Data Storage

  • Local Storage: By default, all data is stored locally in your browser. We cannot access this data.
  • Cloud Storage: If you sign in with Google, your data may be synced to Firebase Cloud Firestore.
  • Data Loss: We are not responsible for data loss due to browser data clearing, device issues, or service interruptions.

4.2 Backups

We strongly recommend regularly exporting your data using the "Export CSV" feature. We do not provide automatic backups of locally stored data.

4.3 Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Please review it to understand our data practices.

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Our Content

The Service, including its original content, features, and functionality, is owned by us and is protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

5.2 Your Content

You retain all rights to the financial data you enter into the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store and process your data solely to provide the Service.

5.3 Open Source

Portions of the Service may use open-source software. These components are subject to their respective licenses (Chart.js - MIT License).

6. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services:

  • Google Firebase: For authentication and optional cloud storage
  • Google AdSense: For advertisements
  • jsDelivr CDN: For delivering Chart.js library

Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms of service.

7. Advertisements

The Service is supported by advertisements provided by Google AdSense. By using the Service, you agree that:

  • Advertisements may be displayed during your use of the Service
  • We are not responsible for the content of advertisements
  • Clicking on advertisements is at your own risk
  • You can use ad blockers, though it may affect our ability to maintain the Service

8. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

8.1 "AS IS" Basis

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

8.2 No Financial Advice

The Service is a tool for tracking expenses only. It does not provide financial, tax, or investment advice. Always consult with qualified professionals for financial decisions.

8.3 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Loss of data or financial information
  • Inaccurate calculations or data visualization
  • Financial losses resulting from use of the Service
  • Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
  • Service interruptions or downtime

9. Service Availability

We strive to provide continuous service but do not guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • That defects will be corrected
  • That the Service will be available at all times

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice.

10. Modifications to Terms

You may stop using the Service at any time by:

  • Clearing your browser data
  • Signing out of your Google account
  • Uninstalling the PWA from your device

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, if you:

  • Engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
  • Abuse or misuse the Service
